Let's Talk Oils
Turns out they are good for cooking, and your skin!
SKIN
Hey friend,
So.
Oils.
Now I thought they were for throwing in a pan and making delicious fried food, but turns out they are actually incredible for your skin too.
But these ones I would not recommend eating...lol...please don't eat them...👁️👄👁️
For a long time I have been frustrated about my skins scars and red splotchy parts. Part of the reason these are so intense on my skin is because my skin barrier is damaged.
ENTER THE ROOM Oils. Now just to tell you know the oils we are going to talk about are Watermelon Oil, Pumpkin Seed Oil, Castor Oil, Turmeric Seed Oil, Batana Oil, and Jojoba Oil.
Oils are FANTASTIC because they aid your natural skin barrier and provide deeper nourishment. Fancy that. They help your skin recover from water loss and keep it hydrated and healthy because they lock in moisture. Plus they are not stuffed with tons of big, long fancy science words that a normal person will never know how to pronounce, let-alone what it is.
Also I must add that oil can be used on your face AND your hair! I do not know of many other products that do that.
As I have used oils these past couple of months I am actually blown away by how much I love them. Plus they last forever because they are the definition of “a little goes a long way.”
With ever thing on this planet there are some important things to remember before using an oil.
1- Make sure your skin or hair or wherever you are using it is not irritated. Do this by testing a small patch of your body first. I have never had a reaction to any oils, but you can never be too careful about your body.
2- The oils you buy should be cold pressed. This is because a cold pressed oil retains its nutrients which the reason you using oils in the first place. It should specify in the description or title of the product that it is cold pressed, if it isn’t then I would keep looking for an oil that is.
3- Oils have something called a Comedogenic Rating (CR). This just means that depending on the thickness of an oil it might be more prone to clogging. You do not want to put an oil with a high rating on your skin because it is more likely to clog your pores and could cause acne.
The comedogenic Rating is a system from 0-5. 0 being the lowest, meaning it will not clog pores, and 5 being the highest, meaning it will clog.
4- Store your oils in dark glass containers (they most likely are already in them—all the ones I recommend are already) and put them in dark, dry places. I like to keep mine on the vanity in my room, a dresser would work, or honestly where you can.
5- Use oils according to your skin and hair’s needs. There is not reason to use this so much that the positive affects start to become negative and you end up frustrated. If you are using an oil on your face then I would recommend only applying oil 1x or 2x a week in a small amount. But I trust your ability to figure out what your skin and hair needs.
So let’s talk about the oils I really like;
Turmeric Seed Oil. Likely a 1-2—it does not have a widely published CR.
is anti-inflammatory. So if you suffer with acne, redness, rosacea, eczema, and/or psoriasis (which I have on my arms) this might be the oil for you to try.

Watermelon Seed 0-1 CR
I have used this on my hair and I love it. I am blonde with thin hair. So this super lightweight oil is perfect for that.
I have also heard it has incredible benefits for the skin. I struggle with larger pores around my nose, chin, and in-between my eyebrows. According to my research (pushes up my glasses and tries to look smart) this oil helps to unclog pores and dissolve sebum. Which is what is sitting in those pesky pores. So I will experiment with this and let you all know, but feel free to try it as well!

Pumpkin Seed Oil 2 CR
I heard once on some TikTok somewhere that Pumpkin Seed oil will make your boobies perky. So ever since then I have used it on my body. It is kind of a thicker oil, and so don’t wear your favorite shirt when you put this on. While I don’t know if my chest is any perky, I can say that my skin eats this up.

Castor Oil 1 CR
My hair is naturally curly, and although thin, I have a lot of hair. So 2x a month I put castor oil on my hair. Typically before my hair washing day. Let me tell you MY CURLS LOVE IT.
Castor oil is also great for your skin and repairing damaged skin, so it is my go to in the winter. And my go to when the sun is mean to me in the summer time.

Batana Oil LIKELY 2-3 also does not have a widely published CR
This oil I only use in my hair. But my hair loves this stuff. Batana oil revives damaged hair. This I also use 2x a month after my shower in very small dosages to make sure my hair doesn’t end up greasy.
Plus it is supposedly known for its benefits to those suffering from thinning hair or hair loss. So if that is something you struggle with give this oil a try! It comes in a cream and oil form so I put in both products.

Jojoba Oil 2 CR
If you have super oily skin like High School me did, then this is the way to go in terms of oils. One of the benefits of Jojoba is that it regulates your oil productions so an over excited glands will be kept in check.
Plus, random fact, I use this when making my own perfume, which if a craft I took up this last year—I will let you know how that goes later.

But ANYWAY! Oils are seriously amazing when you have troubled skin or hair and you are running out of ideas of what to do. I hope you found these tips helpful and I look forward to seeing you again!
Sincerely yours,
Butter Blonde
