Dry Brushing
I am completely obsessed and here is a ramble of why.
BODYSKINGENERAL
I was introduced to dry brushing through Pinterest. Which is where I get the introductions to most of my skin care and body care stuff. At first I thought it was just some internet fad. But call it fateâŠor my algorithm⊠I kept seeing videos popping up every where about âThe Benefits of Dry Brushing.â So I gave in because I was now very curious. And it didnât hurt that a dry brush is like 8 bucks, so it wasnât like this was something that was going to break the bank.
AND LET ME TELL YOU!
I love dry brushing. And I am so happy I bought one, and allow me just a couple of seconds to convince you that you need your own!
I keep my dry brush by my bed (and I also have one in my bathroom, and at my vanity lol) and when I want to take a step back from my life and calm down, I will often brush my arms and so forth. And HONESTLY, if it turns out that nothing is real about dry brushing and it is all a placebo effect, then I am at least grateful for the ability it gives me to connect with my body. It is one of those things where you feel every part of it and it kind of hurts but in a good wayâŠwhatever that means.
It reminds me of when I was a kid my mother had this white plastic dry brush sort of thing that she would brush on our arms and back. It was supposed to help with sensory issues, which I probably had many, but it was always so calming. AND NOW I get to have the grown up version of that!
Furthermore, (I know, fancy wordđ) there are actually benefits to dry brushing.
It is said that dry brushing helps with a host of issues you might have. Some of the most common benefits are that dry brushing helps exfoliate your skin, stimulates your lymphatic flow, Improves circulation, reduces the look of cellulite, and energizes your body. THESE are all GREAT things! SO letâs talk about them a little more.
Exfoliating your skin helps your body avoid things like ingrown hairs and dry spots. Plus I always feel so refreshed and new when my skin has been exfoliated. NOT TO MENTION that with consistent exfoliating your skin tone with look even and it will improve the texture.
I can personally attest to this benefit. After dry brushing for only 3 days I noticed my skin was not blotchy and looked PINTEREST PICTURE PERFECT! I had never had that in my life ever. There was not a part of my body that was more red than the other or purple, everything seemed to be working and thriving as a unit. There is this healthy sort of glow from my skin when I dry brush.
Plus just a reminder, remember to lotion or oil your skin after just to help your skin barrier with rebuilding moisture and everything.
Next, it helps with the Lymphatic System. Honestly, I always thought the lymphatic system was a made up idea and concept...until I watched a medical show and they mentioned it so I looked it up...Turns out it is real, and actually SUPER IMPORTANT. To explain it quickly and simply: this is system is responsible for carrying toxins and waste away from your tissues and out of your body. So it is not something you want to slow down or stall, you want to keep that fluid moving so your body can rid its self of toxins and function in its best condition.
Dry brushing helps encourage this flow because it engages and stimulates this system, waking it up and aiding its movements. Personally, I have seen a huge improvement in my mood, I am not bloated, and I am no longer exhausted. It is crazy how just a couple of minutes of brushing my body can drastically change these things.
To go along with your Lymphatic System, dry brushing also is said to improve circulation. Pretty much in the same way, it stimulates your blood vessels and gets them moving. And when you have good blood circulation your body feels good!
It was wild when I first started dry brushing, I had a pain in my left knee. SO I would concentrate on the back and sides of my knee, just thinking of the blood flow. And I have yet to have pain in that knee since. Granted it wasnât a major injury, but it did cause me pain and discomfort.
Now for the NUMBER ONE reason I got a dry brush; the internet told me it reduces the appearance of cellulite. Cellulite is natural and sexy, but sometimes it is just not the look you want for your pool day or whatever.
As I dry brushed my legs I noticed that my cellulite was âgoing away.â Really it was just blood flow breaking up fat deposits and plumping up my skin so it looked smoother. But even that is impressive.
One thing that is important to remember when dry brushing is that your consistency is what is going to get you the best results. I know you are probably tired of hearing that, but it is true. I would dry brush for 3 days and then stop, and my results would last for 5ish days. And honestly that is NOT bad! As I dry brush everyday, I see so many more results because of my consistency. And even if you donât do it every day it is always something you can pick up and use every once in a while.
